I went to see amazing artist Jane Davenport

Last week I finally got the chance to visit Jane Davenport’s ‘The Institute of Cute‘, located in the beautiful Bryon Bay.  We were on our way back from visiting family in Queensland, and I convinced my husband to alter our planned route back to Melbourne so that I could stop at Jane’s gorgeous store. Ever since I discovered Jane’s blog I have wanted to visit her super cute.

Unfortunately I did not get to meet the lovely Jane herself. However when I arrived, I was greeted by the wonderful Fiona, who was working there at the time. Talk about great customer service. What a gem she is. She seemed just as excited about Jane’s store and its gorgeous items as I was. If it wasn’t for my husband and kids, that were waiting for me patiently, I would have definitely spent longer there.

I ended up buying a beautiful A4 hardbound journal, an Aquah brush pen, an Acylic paint dabber and a blending pencil. As you can see from the above photo, the cute lady bug bag I’m holding was a free gift with my purchases. I love it. There were so many more things I wanted, but I thought I’d save the rest to buy from Jane’s online store. I have my eye on some of the items pictured below, as well as some more of the art supplies, obviously =D.
I walked out of this store with the biggest smile on my face. This visit to Jane’s awesome store was the highlight of my holiday for sure.
You can find Jane at the following places:

Special thanks to Jane and Fiona. =D
If you would like to learn more about Jane and her artwork, Jane was interviewed by Tam Laporte (Willowing) on Tam’s fabulous Ning site Willowing.ning.com. You can read the interview here.

I’ve entered a competition – Mary – Mixed Media Portrait

Mary, a photo by Blissful Pumpkin on Flickr.
I recently framed this portrait of Mary and entered it into a local competition. It, along with my ‘Divine Mercy’ image of Jesus, is in the shop window of a local christian shop called ‘Jacob’s Well. The competition is apart of an Art festival that is run every year where I live and sees artists displaying their work in shop windows around town.
This is my first ever competition that I’ve entered my work into, so my fingers are crossed. Wish me luck,
Kyles =D
P.S. Prints of both artworks are available in my Etsy shop

I received both of these Valentine inspired ATC’s, through Tam’s ATC Swap, on her ning site willowing.ning.com.  These creative cards were made by the talented B from http://sweetlimes.com

Mixed media artwork on wood. Available mid Feb in my Etsy store.

Here is a sneak peak of another of my artworks that will be for sale in my Etsy store, come February.
The Matt boards, backing boards and re-sealable clear bags I have ordered, from The Mat Cutting Company, have arrived and I am happy to say that they look great. I was very impressed how well all my items were packaged. I have also picked up some prints from the printers and hope to put them all together tonight.

I’ve decided to go ‘professional’ with every aspect of my Etsy store. My prints will arrive taped between a matt board (you can choose between two colours) and a backing board, ready for framing. I’ve chosen to only print in universal standard sizes, to make it easier to pop into a frame, no matter where in the world you live.

Although my Etsy store Grand Opening will be mid Feb, I will let you, my blog followers, know once I have put my first item in the store.

I would love it if you could spread the word about my Grand Opening, if possible.
